A Message from the President

Dear Dysphagia Research Society Colleagues,

I am writing to provide the membership with a brief end of the year Society update.

I am happy to report that our membership has increased to a total of 459 paid members! This is an increase in over 100 members from the same time last year. Moreover, we have 84 new members (15 Full, 62 Associate, and 7 Training)! Many thanks to Mark Nicosia and the rest of the Membership Committee for their hard work on creating initiatives to attract and sustain Society members. If you have not already done so, be sure and renew your membership for 2017! If you need assistance, contact

The Website, Communications, and Public Relations Committee (WCPRC), under the leadership of Sonja Molfenter, is also to be commended for their work. The committee is preparing public relations events in Portland to highlight our society and meeting. DRS has extremely active Facebook and Twitter accounts. Those of you who are active in social media know that the posting and monitoring of accounts, especially professional accounts, is very time-intensive. Yvette McCoy and Rinki Varindani Desai have taken on this responsibility and should be acknowledged for their time and effort.

This is a mere highlight of the work being done by our various committees. While there are too many to note in one update, I would like to thank all of the DRS committees for their dedication and support of the Society’s efforts and initiatives.
