Feeding, Swallowing and airway protection are major concerns in the care of infants and children with aerodigestive pathologies. Lack of precision in diagnosis with a single practicing discipline calls for transdisciplinary perspectives in enhancing the collaborative practice models. These pathologies manifest with concerns related to swallowing, airway protection, bronchopulmonary changes, and pharyngo-esophageal motility disorders. All these potential dysfunctional mechanisms call for modifications with feeding methods. In this session, experts will use case studies as examples in explaining the approaches to clarify the diagnosis of aerodigestive pathologies, medical and surgical management therapies will be discussed.

After this presentation, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify candidates for evaluation by an aerodigestive team.
  • Discuss methods to evaluate dysphagia in children with chronic lung disease.
  • Discuss management techniques to palliate dysphagia in children with CLD.
  • Identify indications for instrumental assessment of swallows.
  • Discuss options for therapeutic management.
